Structural Formula cont.An intermolecular force is an attraction between adjacent molecules. Because Teflon is a non-polar molecule, it can only experience Dispersion Forces. This is because dispersion acts on any two adjacent molecules, whether it is non-polar or not. An example of this is displayed on the image on the right. Both Teflon (C2F4) and CCl4 are non-polar molecules. These two molecules experience dispersion forces because they are adjacent to one another.
